Visiting Calatabiano

We have planned three different cultural-touristic routes: from the Arab Norman Castle to the route “Calatabiano, A City of Castles”, which includes also the visit to Saint Mark's Castle besides the one of the Arab Norman Fortress. The most complete route is “Visiting Calatabiano”, which offers the visit to the two Castles, to the Churches in the medieval area, and finally to the Mother Church.

 

1) Arab-Norman castle of  Calatabiano

 

 

 

 


Morning plan
9.30: Bus arrival at the parking near the castle.
10.00: Going up to the castle by panoramic lift and visit to the Arab-Norman castle.
12.00: Bus departure.


Afternoon plan
14.30: Arrival at the parking near the castle.
15.00: Going up to the castle by panoramic lift and visit to the Arab-Norman castle.
17.00: Bus departure.


Option 1 “Coffee and cake at the castle”
Coffee and Sicilian cake


Option 2 “You are invited to a «Historical Cocktail»
Prosecco (dry white wine) or soft drink.
Bread, olives and a cream of black olives.
Sicilian pecorino (“hard cheese from ewe’s milk”) and slices of pistachio enriched mortadella.

2) Visiting Calatabiano

9.30: Bus arrival at the parking near the castle.
10.00: Going up to the castle by panoramic lift and visit to the Arab-Norman castle.
11.30: visit to the old medieval ruins with a stop at the Church ‘SS. Crocifisso’ (1484).
12.00: visit to the Church ‘Gesù e Maria’ (Jesus and Mary) XVII c. It houses precious pictures.
12.30: visit to the  Church ‘Maria SS. Annunziata’ (1740), where it is kept an outstanding wooden Crucifix, probably by G. Salvo D'Antonio (1502).
13.30: Lunch break.
15.00: visit to the ‘Castello San Marco’ (Castle of  Saint Mark's) (1689)
15.45: Bus departure.

3) Calatabiano, a City of Castles
